Secure Ethereum Anonymity & Defense Relay via Advanced Global Overlay Networking

This project aims to enhance the privacy and security of Ethereum nodes through the integration of a WireGuard overlay network. By creating a lightweight, adaptable, purpose-built virtual private network (VPN), this project seeks to obscure node public IP addresses from potential attackers, providing a significant increase in privacy. Furthermore, the creation of a resilient overlay network will allow nodes to maintain operation and mitigate attacks through authenticated peer connections, ensuring network integrity and robustness against external and internal threats. This project creates Secure Ethereum Anonymity & Defense Relay via Advanced Global Overlay Networking (SEADRAGON).

This project is funded by the Ethereum Foundation Academic Grants ‘24, satisfying the wishlist item “Privacy: What techniques can be used at the p2p layer to add more privacy guarantees? What non-protocol techniques can be utilized – VPNs, TOR, sentry nodes, etc – at what cost, efficacy, etc. Security: P2P stress testing.”
